30 for 30's "Pink Card" - 4-Part Series (2.25 hrs)
No two episodes are alike, and that’s a good thing.
Recommendation Type: 4-Part Series
Length: 2 hrs, 15 minutes
Format/Style: Narrative
Release Date: December 2022
Publication: ESPN’s 30 for 30, Shirazad Productions
One of this year’s must-listens. Part narrative, part essay, all cultural and political reflection. Multi-lingual. Sound rich and deeply satisfying. It’s four-parts but you could enjoy it all in one-two sittings/walkings (take ear breaks!) No two episodes are alike, and that’s a good thing.
Shima brings her past experience reporting, producing, and hosting previous series and absolutely SHINES on the mic here. The full series is brought together by a rockstar team of audio journalism’s finest. (Check out those credits posted below! Sizzly! Also, hi Shima’s mom!)
Shima and the team also demonstrate how the reporter’s notebook technique of letting listeners inside their process can serve the narrative and the podcast format, without becoming insufferable. We learn about Shima’s personal journey (and family’s history) alongside the unfolding of the core plot line through Iranian women and their love for soccer. Shima’s positionality as one ‘character’ in the story shows how central her unique voice as reporter, host, and witness for this series really is. Thank you for this.
Shima sent in an exclusive Producer’s Notebook just for paid subscribers. You can check it here:
