A deep, personal, and heartfelt piece of reportage from award-winning producer and podcast host Yvonne Latty. In the reporter’s chair, Latty traces her complicated relationship with her mother, a woman whose past is reflected across language, country, and multi-generational anecdotes with honesty and fullness. This one is especially memorable for its creative use of tape (and gorgeous insight from Latty’s daughter) during the unpredictable period of lockdown. For some of the students I’ve shared it with, it’s a tear-jerker, so please take care.
This one is a choose-your-own-listen-length. The original feature was about 43 minutes long. If you’re shorter on time, there’s also a 12 min Code Switch segment, too.
Either way, check out the gorgeous images from Yvonne’s archive and behind-the-scenes from her reporting and producing process. Hint hint, stay tuned for more!
